The Awakening, and Selected Short Stories

Author Kate Chopin's 1899 masterpiece The Awakening. The story, originally titled A Solitary Soul, is about a young mother's fight for sexual and personal freedom in the segregated South after the Civil War. When it was first released, many people were offended by its depiction of sexuality and adultery in marriage. It has since become a classic of feminist literature.
