The Odyssey

The Odyssey is a 24-book epic poem commonly credited to Homer, an ancient Greek poet. The poem tells the tale of Odysseus, king of Ithaca, and his ten-year journey home after the Trojan War (although the poem itself only covers the final six weeks). Only his loyal dog and a nurse greet him upon his homecoming. In order to reclaim his throne, Odysseus enlists the aid of his son Telemachus to eliminate the persistent suitors of his faithful wife Penelope and several of her maids who had consorted with them.
